Already qualified and you want to go for a dive?

You haven't dived for a while? Feeling a bit rusty?
If you haven't dived for 12 months or more and you are feeling a little anxious then why not book a Scuba Review.

Scuba Review - what is it?
The Scuba Review program is recommended for divers who have been out of the water for a while and need to regain their confidence in the water. It consists of two parts - a short Knowledge Review and a Confined Water Skills Review in a swimming pool. There is also an optional open water dive.

The Knowledge Review segment covers the basic safety information divers learn during their Open Water Course. Divers use the Scuba Tune-up multimedia or guidebook to independently test their knowledge and complete the Open Water course quizzes and exam.
The Confined Water Skills Review in the swimming pool allows participants to practice basic scuba skills. With guidance from a PADI instructor, divers update and fine tune their diving ability.
A supervised open water dive is an optional addition to the program. This dive offers an opportunity to obtain an environmental orientation to a local dive site from a PADI instructor while gaining confidence and refreshing dive skills. You will need to complete some paperwork including a medical questionnaire. (Click here to view)

How long will it take and how much does it cost?
You should allow at least 2 hours for the Scuba Review pool based program. The cost of this will be 50 euros and includes tanks and weights but not the cost of equipment hire. If you would like to make the additional open water dive on the same day then you should allow another 2 hours and it will cost an additional 50 euros and includes all equipment and the transfer to the dive site.

Discover Local Diving and Guided/Supervised dives
This is a supervised underwater tour designed to orient divers to unfamiliar aquatic conditions and environments. Divers can get an orientation to the local underwater area while on a diving holiday. The guidance provided by your Instructor allows you to comfortably explore different underwater environments, find items of interest and avoid potential hazards.

If you want, you can at the beginning portion of your Discover Local dive, review some of your diving skills. Divers find this is especially useful after a short period of inactivity and is just what they need to get back in the water.

If you prefer to be guided around a dive site then shore dives can be arranged at any time but need to be booked at least a day in advance.  If you would like to dive from a boat rather than from the shore this can be arranged subject to availability. Ever wanted to do a dive at Night? We can organise a guided dive in a secluded cove where you can experience the thrill of diving at night and encounter a whole new world.

How long does it take and how much does it cost?
All dives are guided by an instructor and include transport to and from the dive sites. You should allow 2 or 3 hours. Guided dives will cost 50 euros and includes the cost of tanks and weights but not the cost of equipment hire.
Boat dives have to be booked in advance and carry an additional cost of 45 euros. Night dives have a surcharge of 25 euros.
Please contact us to arrange a booking and also do not forget to let us know if you require equipment and the sizes you need. Please also remember to bring your certification cards, log books and diving/travel insurance details with you. You will be required to complete a Medical Questionnaire. Please click here for the cost of equipment hire.

What is the diving like?
The Costa Calida has an abundance of safe, clear and warm waters where you can see a wide and varied range of sea life with both hard and soft corals. These sheltered and non-tidal waters provide an ideal environment to either learn how to scuba dive or to experience the enjoyment of shore, boat, deep and wreck dives for the qualified diver.
Water temperatures tend to dictate the diving season and range from 25° centigrade in the summer down to 16° centigrade during the winter months. Consequently suitable thermal protection is required with full length 5mm wetsuit in summer and 7mm wetsuit or a dry suit through winter being appropriate.

Where are the best dive sites?
The best diving is around the area of Cabo de Palos and along the coast towards Cartagena.

There are a number of sheltered dive sites which range from sandy patches to fields of sea grass and rocky outcrops and from 7metres down to over 30 metres deep. The sites are populated by large shoals of colourful Salima and a multitude of wrasses and gobies.

The Islas Hormigas Marine Reserve, situated off the coast at Cabo de Palos is a protected area and has some of Spain's best diving, where visibility averages 12-15 metres.  Here you can see shoals of barracuda, giant groupers hanging out in the current, octopus hiding amongst the rocks and a multitude of the fish unfortunately seen in the local supermarkets!!! The Isla Hormigas Marine Reserve can only be accessed by boat.  There are also a number of wrecks within this area that can be reached by recreational divers.

Entrance to the Isla Hormigas Marine Reserve is restricted and you must be an advanced level diver. Permits are granted by diver by day and the situation can change at short notice. Please book early with us if you want to maximise your chance of diving the reserve. Contact us now to discuss your booking.

Want to do further training?
As a PADI Open Water Diver you can explore the seas and oceans around the world but why limit your diving to 18 metres? Why not explore deeper, dive on sunken wrecks, take good underwater pictures as souvenirs. You can improve you diving knowledge and skills and broaden your diving experience by choosing from a variety of advanced PADI diving courses. If so then please click here for further information.

Are there any special Spanish Regulations regarding Scuba Diving?
Yes there are. However, as Spain consists of a number of Autonomous Regions, all of which have their own local regulations it is difficult to generalise. The main Murcian regulations relate to:
Minimum age
You must be over 16 years of age to engage in scuba diving activities in Spain. This mainly applies to diving in the sea.
Medical
Local law also states divers should have a diving medical every 2 years. It is advisable that you have proof of fitness to dive. This applies, whether you book on a certification course or on a diving trip. You will be required to complete the PADI medical statement.
Insurance
Last but not least, you must have your own personal diving insurance which covers you for accidents while scuba diving. If you have your own travel insurance please bring it with you as we are required to check to see that it covers you for scuba diving. If you do not have such insurance we can arrange this for you. Please click here for details of cover and premium.
